In 30+ years as a couples therapist, I've helped many couples work through problems to create the kind of partnership they truly want. Most couples tell me that they want to feel connected with their partner again; to stop the 'same old arguments' from cycling over and over; to stop living like roommates; to end the painful silences; to feel heard and understood; and to feel hopeful, and happy again. Most couples tell me that their communication has broken down. As we work together we discover that their communication has broken down because something much more fundamental has broken down. While each person's situation is unique, especially as to exactly what has broken down, I work with couples to help them understand what it is that has broken down and therefore how to resolve the issues that bring misunderstanding and conflict to their lives.

My approach to therapy is based on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). A core idea in ACT is that trying too hard to get rid of or control our emotions tends to backfire. Instead of trying to get rid of unwanted thoughts and feelings (e.g., anxiety & depression), I will help you learn to react differently to them so that you can keep your focus on living a meaningful and fulfilling life based on what’s important to you. We will work together to set meaningful goals to address your concerns–whether they relate to life transitions, depression, anxiety, body image, grief/loss, job or academic stress, or gender & sexuality. View 4 Photos I primarily provide individual therapy with late teens and adults. I specialize in working transgender and non-binary youth and their families on matters related to gender identity. Transgender clients and family members seeking assessment or counseling services can expect a safe space, and respectful, non-pathologizing, collaborative care. If you feel like you may be a good fit, feel free to contact me. I will follow up with you for a brief (10-15 minute) phone consultation where we can determine together if we're a good fit and I can also answer any questions you might have.

My approach is very relationship based, incorporating fundamentals of clinical practice...including CBT, DBT, psychodynamic and psychosocial approaches. I am very holistic and work with the person in the situation and the system. I specialize with many different presenting problems and have worked with very diverse populations in the past including; parenting skills/coaching, life skills, coping skills, anxiety, depression, high risk behaviors, adoption issues, adjustment issues, such as relocating, divorce, loss, identity issues and learning issues to name a few. The relationship that is developed helps to empower, heal and strengthen the individual, and or the family. Supporting a person as they explore and process sometimes painful or challenging issues and as the create a new, healthier "normal" is exciting to experience.Crucial to this experience is using ones self to illicit change, and growth. I have built a successful and effective practice in part through returning and satisfied clients, word of mouth and professional referrals. The therapeutic relationship is so critical to success. I will not hesitate to collaborate with a client to find the best clinical fit for that person and their situation.

With regards to therapy, I tend to think in terms of months, not years. My role is to help clients get on a track that will lead to resolution of whatever brings them to therapy. I do not look for pathology or blame; rather, I try to help people build on their strengths. I also try to help individuals develop strategies and identify resources that work best for their unique situation. My couples and family work includes the relationship span. In addition, I enjoy working with young adults, and individuals on a variety of issues, but not limited to, depression and anxiety, self-harm, self esteem/worth, communication and life transitions/adjustment. Email is the best way to reach out and determine a time where we can meet and determine how to proceed with your therapy journey.
